Hi! I'm Maya!   :)

I'm from Greensboro, NC. I am an Alumna of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, graduating with a B. A. in biology and a minor neuroscience as well as psychology. I really enjoy peaches, penguins, puppies, and peanut butter, and my favorite color is purple.

If you know me, you know that I am always smiling or laughing, but I am also a very private person. With that being said, most people, including close friends and family, are not aware  that I am a (2x) Suicide Attempt Survivor. I have held on to this secret for some time and it became additional trauma I had to deal with. I am now at a place in my life where I want to let go of this "secret" and help others who are also battling in silence.

I wanted to create an outlet where African American youth can ask questions and discuss topics (ex: mental health, suicide, rape, abuse) that they would not normally talk about on our mainstream social media platforms. I know, first hand, how hard it is to pretend like everything is going fine when, in reality, you are anything but. However, I have found that it is easier to talk to people who are experiencing the same emotions as you (especially people who do not know you personally). As a Black woman who continues to struggle with anxiety, self harm, and suicidal thoughts, I believe this application will benefit so many people.

Thanks for listening!

Tia A.

Mentoring Program Coordinator

Hi!

My name is Tia and I’m from Greensboro, North Carolina. I received by Bachelors from East Carolina University majoring in Family and Community Services and currently work as Registered Behavior Technician implementing ABA Therapy.

I battled depression and anxiety in high school and college, but fortunately I had family and friends who helped me overcome those challenges. As a part of the Oasis team, I’m here to give you that same support!

You matter. You have a purpose. You’re not alone.

Chloe B.

Program Manager for Female Mentors

Hi there!

I'm Chloe. I am a recent graduate of Spelman College where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. I'm currently preparing to transition into dental school to pursue a career as a dentist.

Having a deep commitment to holistic health and its effect on our overall well-being, I work to utilize the practice and principles of yoga as a tool for community outreach in Atlanta, Georgia and the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina.

On my own journeys to healing, I've learned to be deliberate about prioritizing my mental and physical health. Eleanor Brown says "When you take time to replenish your spirit, it allows you to serve others from the overflow. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” Oasis is here to help bring you the replenishment that you're most deserving of.

I am so glad to be here and I am so glad that you're here.

Chardae C.

Marketing Coordinator

My name is Chardae Carter and I’m from Atlanta, Georgia. I received my Bachelors from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in Marketing, and currently work as the Marketing Coordinator at The Body Well Chiropractic.

While in college, I was in a verbally abusive relationship, which caused a lot of self-doubt and sadness within myself. Post relationship, I found healing and relief through having a strong support system in my friends and family. I found peace in self-care and meditation. I hope you choose Oasis to connect to people like yourself, and find some peace amongst your peers and mentors!

A. Logan

Program Manager for Male Mentors

My name is Albert Logan, but everyone usually just calls me Logan. I am an Event Coordinator and Caterer from Greensboro, NC.

( HMU for all of your event services needs! 😂)

Having dealt with anxiety, depression and a low self esteem I know what it's like to internalize your emotions. However through my process of taking control of my mental and physical health I've seen that Prayer, Finding ways to Express Yourself and Talking to Friends and Family are key.

All of my friends here at Oasis are excited and we cant wait to help in any way that we can!

Social Media Management & Advertising

Hey, I'm Vivian!

I'm from Greensboro, NC and I'm an Alumna of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in biology with a minor in psychology.

While I've been in college I've dealt with mild depression and anxiety. I've struggled on how to deal with these issues but I've found that talking and releasing these feelings help in a major way. Oasis is a great way to connect to people like yourself and find someone who can really understand and help you, however that may be!
