“Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”
Hi! I'm Maya! :)
I'm from Greensboro, NC. I am an Alumna of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, graduating with a B. A. in biology and a minor neuroscience as well as psychology.
I am also a Suicide Attempt Survivor.
I have held on to this secret for some time and it became additional trauma I had to deal with. I am now at a place in my life where I want to let go of this "secret" and help others who are also battling in silence.
I wanted to create an outlet where African American youth can ask questions and discuss topics (ex: mental health, suicide, rape, abuse) that they would not normally talk about on our mainstream social media platforms. As a Black woman who continues to struggle with anxiety, self harm, and suicidal thoughts, I believe this application will benefit so many people.
Thanks for listening!

You cannot serve from an empty vessel.” Oasis is here to help bring you the replenishment that you're most deserving of.
I am so glad to be here and I am so glad that you're here.

While in college, I was in a verbally abusive relationship, which caused a lot of self-doubt and sadness within myself. Post relationship, I found healing and relief through having a strong support system in my friends and family. I found peace in self-care and meditation. I hope you choose Oasis to connect to people like yourself, and find some peace amongst your peers and mentors!

Having dealt with anxiety, depression and a low self esteem I know what it's like to internalize your emotions. However through my process of taking control of my mental and physical health I've seen that Prayer, Finding ways to Express Yourself and Talking to Friends and Family are key.
All of my friends here at Oasis are excited and we cant wait to help in any way that we can!
Hey, I'm Vivian!

While I've been in college I've dealt with mild depression and anxiety. I've struggled on how to deal with these issues but I've found that talking and releasing these feelings help in a major way. Oasis is a great way to connect to people like yourself and find someone who can really understand and help you, however that may be!
